Feedback 2

While playing the revised version of our video to the class, faces all around us glowed up with enjoyment. After the film people gave feedback about the revised film and overall they only gave good feedback about how well it was put together. although we didn't get feedback that would imply us re editing it, I thought some things needed to change in order to make the film run smoother. The voice over from when trey was walking towards the Honda after being released from jail, was a little rushed and not loud enough. A new recording will replace the current one. Also incidental music needs to be added to the beginning and end of the movie as it feels as if its lacking sound (too quiet). another edit we need to make is the volume of the officer when talking to trey. the radio sound effect volume is set too high and needs to be changed in order for it to be more pleasant for my viewers.

Quarter 3 submission

Creative Critical Reflection

Blue Shark Attack: LB Works’ Aventador
The technology we used wasn't as extensive as one might think. In order to keep track of research and things that have occurred in making our film, we used a google application called blogger. We were able to access blogger through HP EliteBooks that are available for use in the aice media studies class room. In order to shoot or film we used my personal camera the Sony Alpha 5N. i swapped the lens to some 18x55 mm lens which game me the perfect picture and zoom for this project. After filming we had to figure out a way to edit the video and compile it all together. To do this we used an amazing editing software by adobe, called adobe premier pro. It gave me all the necessary tools to edit the video exactly to my liking.

With little previous background on planning, filming, editing, and many other skills it was quite a learning process from beginning to end. My passion for cars and taking pictures, filming and making edits of cars gave me an edge in the filming aspect. Some challenges I faced are the adaption to this different editing software. I've never worked with premier pro before so the whole editing process took a little bit longer than expected. After proficient use i have become very comfortable using the editing software and plan on using it for future projects. The whole process of finding a shooting location was hard as i had never had to deal with one this tricky. through some friends we found out a perfect spot and asked for permission in order to conduct the filming.

Through My Lens: The House Of Drift

After doing extensive research on audiences and social groups and how they apply to different movie genres. We came to the conclusion with our genre our target audience would include car enthusiasts, adrenaline junkies, and those sort of groups. In order to connect our audience to the film we used normal conventions from other movies in order to draw the viewers in and glue them in their seat until the film is over. these social groups over the years are having a ridiculous amount of influx from the youth. In order to connect them to this piece we used items that the millennials would connect with. This included the Louis Vuitton bags and other millennial based stylistic cues that would appeal to this subset of social groups. After doing research in different movie distribution methods I concluded that universal would partner up with us in order to distribute the movie. Universal pictures is a world renowned distribution company that has more than enough reputation in order to push our film to its revenue stream limits. Universal pictures would then distribute it to multiple theaters for example regal cinemas and amc cinemas (local examples). If this strategy were not to work then we would sell all rights to a streaming service. The particular streaming service we would choose would be Netflix, due to the large subscription number.

Creative critical reflection

In order to create a blockbuster like movie we had to dig into some research. At first we looked at what plots these sort of movies have and how they develop. From this were were able to formulate our movie intro and how it needs to unravel to have people eager to keep watching. We also broke down these intros into their basic elements of camera shots, sound, editing, and mise en scene. This let us directly get a feel for how a movie like this is made. After researching these conventions we started to try to implement them into the movie. We used specific camera angles like low angle shots to emphasize the aggressiveness of the cars and situations. Before the race was conducted we used insert shots of the cars revving and warming up. This is a big convention in a lot of major racing films. For example in all of the fast and furious movies lots of over used revving clips can be seen before almost every single race conducted in the films. After doing extensive research on our target audience we concluded our target audience matches directly up with the social group represented within the film. This social group being car enthusiasts and motor heads is what exactly this movie to appeal to. Me being a car enthusiast myself would have me wanting me to see the movie as it release.

The movie started to gain hype in august of 2015 when Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that the film would be released on march 17,2017. Th release date change 2 times to august 11 then June28th. due to some difficulty distributing the movie it was re-released on august 25 in 1,074 theaters. The movie was released on digital media on September 12 , 2017 and on 4k Ultra HD/Blu-ray and DVD on October 10, 2017. even though they followed the 3 month DVD release they still had to re -release the movie another time due to some distribution errors made by Sony entertainment.

Distribution Research Traditional: Fast and Furious 6

FastandFurious6-teaserposter.jpg
Fast and furious 6 is an action film made 2013 it was directed by Justin Lin and written by . It is the sixth movie within the Fast and Furious franchise. With the help of  Universal Pictures On June 24, 2011, they announced that the sequel was scheduled for release on May 24, 2013 in movie theaters. the movie made $239 million in North America and $550 million from everywhere else for a worldwide total of $789 million. as stated by Universal pictures, Outside North America fast and furious 6 is the highest-grossing film in the Fast and Furious series, the second highest-grossing Universal film and the second highest-grossing 2013 film. It was released on DVD in December 10, 2013 which follows the more traditional route as universal pictures held the movie in theaters for longer. The die hard fans didnt want to wait that long and so this strategy makes people come into the theaters and the creators make more money. FX has purchased the rights to air the movie on its network in 2015 where all of the fast and furious films are played for subscribers.

Revision 3

In this scene when Austin is walking out of his house he receives a call from an unknown source. when we originally shot this the "no caller id" was out of focus and wasn't easily seen. We went back and re-shot it this time ensuring the phone was in focus.

Revision 2

In this scene when Austin finds the letter in the car we originally were rushed on rough draft due date and had to improvise by using a piece of notebook paper. We re-shot this scene the other day by replacing the paper with some printer paper.

Revision number 1

In this scene the main character Austin Jones is talking to his nemesis. When we first shot it, the wind level was very high causing the actor to be unheard. One day we went back to location and set up to re-shoot the scene. Everything came out well in the end.

Target Audience Research: Rush

Image result for rush movie
First of all this movie was an absolutely amazing movie. Every second of this movie had you tied to the roots of racing. The movie Rush used many sources of advertising to spread the word. This included social media posts and TV trailers that gave viewers a glimpse of the action. They used many techniques to drive people into the doors. This was done specifically to appeal to their target audience. They posted various ads in magazines like motor trend and car throttle. Their target audience obviously being the automotive culture, was brought into the theaters from these ads.

Target Audience Research: Mad Max Fury Road

Image result for mad max fury road advertising campaign
The new mad max movie although used many techniques to advertise their film, didn't have to put forth as much effort as their is a huge following of the mad max series in general. They used general advertising strategies like releasing trailers on TV and posting to social media. They also held a contest where they had people take a selfie and caption it #iammax. These pictures were then placed on billboards across the world, then the select winners were given access to a special premier screening party on the release. This generated advertising for people who viewed the billboards and they got to make some of their fans feel very special and flabbergasted. This movie brought many different interest groups so the target audience was far broader than other movies.

Target Audience Research: Fast and Furious 7

Image result for fast and furious 7

The film we created pertains to a massive social group of people who are brought together by cars and action. Our audience range is from 15-30 years old. Gender definetely pertains more towards men as they are the majority in the social group of car lovers. The geography of our audience is majority international but more pertaining to areas that are developed enough to relate to people who use and see cars on a daily basis. The income level of the viewers would be between 40k year and up as this sort of money allows these people to further dive into their interest of cars and actually be inspired by the movie to build a car.

Fast and furious 7 used many techniques to market their movie but a big one for their followers was universals decision to put Paul walker at the forefront of the global marketing campaign. this was a perfect scheme for them. People that were die hard Fast and Furious fans and even some not so die hard viewers, absolutely love Paul walker. he is a huge part of the car seen across the globe. So what better way to market this movie than appeal to your exact target audience. The persuasion that sent these people flooding into the theater included the use of media such as billboards. On these billboards and social media posts they slapped Paul's face on them and added a small sentence that said FOR PAUL. This made everyone that was a Paul walker fan or a Fast and Furious fan go absolutely crazy. So crazy that they were so hyped to see the movie they were ready to buy a ticket even before the movie made a premier.

Plan for corrections

After showing our video to the class we got an overall feedback of them enjoying it. they gave little remarks about the scene where trey answers the phone you cant really see what it says since its out of focus. we need to re shoot that whole ending 1 more time. Also the part where i pull out the gun after that is a little choppy, so we are planning on making that run smoother. We will be able to get all of this done when everyone is free.

Through our previous research on the movies intros we watched, our group used a lot of techniques that are in the big blockbuster films in order to replicate an automotive action movie. At first we looked at what plots these sort of movies have. We also broke down these intros into their basic elements of camera shots, sound, editing, and mise en scene. This let us directly get a feel for how a movie like this is made. We took those elements and tried to replicate it into our film. Watching the film I can point out of little detail that we got referenced from another movie from. By implementing the elements of the big movies we can increase our screening enjoyment. This applies to social groups that tailor around cars. The people within our film represent a hyperbole of the criminality of that social group. But it does represent the die hard emotions to build your car to be faster than his/her opponents.
